As of next season, the Telekom Veszprém goalkeeper Ádám Borbély will join Wisła. SPR Wisła Płock signed a two-year contract with a 21-year-old Hungarian player.
Ádám Borbély (197 cm, 114 kg) started playing handball at the age of nine in his home town, Debrecen, and joined Veszprém as a junior player. In 2013, he played in the Men’s Junior World Championship and in 2014, in the Youth World Championship. In the 2014/2015 season, he was temporarily transferred to Balatonfüredi (30 games) and a year later, to Grundfos Tatabánya (35 games). He came back to Telekom Veszprém to join Roland Mikler and Mirko Alilovic on the goalkeepers’ list. He regularly plays in SEHA Liga games and was also selected for the Hungary national team for the 2017 World Championship in France.
“The situation with our new goalkeeper is the same as in the case of Rodrigo Corrales, who joined ORLEN Wisła as a virtually unknown player, but quickly became one of our strongest assets,” comments coach Piotr Przybecki on the transfer of the Hungarian player. “Ádám is a member of the new generation in Hungarian handball and we have high hopes for him. Together with the goalkeepers’ coach, Artur Góral, we decided he might help us. Even before he joined Veszprém, he had a very good season playing for Grundfos Tatabánya. Of course he is still a young goalkeeper who has a lot to learn and needs to play many more games, but at the same time he is very hardworking, goal-oriented, and ready to leave Veszprém and develop in ORLEN Wisła.”
I consider this transfer a big step in my career”, says Ádám Borbély. “To me, it is an enormous opportunity for development that can benefit both my personal career and ORLEN Wisła Płock. I consider myself hard-working and I think I have what it takes to play at such a high level. Unfortunately, I was unable to demonstrate it in my current team, and this was one of the reasons I decided to change clubs. My young age means I can quickly develop my skills and deliver results. I think Płock is the perfect place for me. I am very excited to play for ORLEN Wisła from the new season. I hope I will make a valuable contribution to the team’s performances in the next seasons.”
Ádám Borbély is the third player to join ORLEN Wisła in the 2017/2018 season. Przemysław Krajewski (KS Azoty Puławy) and Nemanja Obradović (Metalurg Skopje) have already signed their contracts.
