Round 12 – preview

As always, Tuesday marks the start of another round of PGNiG Superleague. This week, we will see two games broadcast live on TV. One of them will be the TV debut of Okrąglak, the new sports arena of Gwardia Opole. The second match between NMC Górnik Zabrze and Zagłębie Lubin, to be played on the eve of Miners’ Day, will surely attract the fans from the mining community. The 12th round will see six games for four points. There is surely something worth fighting for.

Facing the Champions

Two teams from the opposite ends of the table, Spójnia Gdynia and PGE VIVE Kielce, will face each other in Gdynia. Spójnia, one of the two Superleague newcomers, has been gaining valuable experience all throughout the season. In the opening game of the 12th round, they will take on the Polish Champions, PGE VIVE Kielce, a team that has not yet lost a single game this season. The two teams from the Blue Group will play for four points.

SPR Stal Mielec visits Orlen Arena

The Wisła team has the best defence in the Superleague. On average, they lose only 22 goals per game. They have recently won comfortably with Piotrkowianin, 23:31. Their upcoming opponent, Stal Mielec, although less effective in their defence, does great in the attack and is considered one of the best Superleague teams in this regard. Stal is hungry for success, having lost to NMC Górnik Zabrze 29:35. This time, two teams from the Orange Group will fight for four points.

First broadcast from Okrąglak

This Saturday, we will witness a clash between two teams that fought side by side to advance into the group stage of the EHF Cup. After a dramatic two-legged tie against the Danish TTH Holstebro, it was Azoty-Puławy who moved on to the group stage. Marko Panic scored the decisive goal 13 seconds before the final whistle. Gwardia had to give in to their Slovenian rivals, RD Koper.
Coming back to the Superleague: Gwardia has lost their last Superleague game against KPR Legionowo. It was a close-fought match, with Legionowo winning after a penalty shootout. Azoty, on the other hand, won comfortably against MMTS Kwidzyn, 27:18.
The two teams from the Orange Group will fight for four points. The total difference in games won between the two teams is 5 to 1 for Azoty. This will also be the first TV broadcast from Okrąglak, the new home of Gwardia Opole.

Eking out

Pogoń and Legionowo definitely had some reasons to celebrate after the last round. KPR defeated Gwardia Opole and Sandra Spa Pogoń Szczecin took everyone by surprise, comfortably beating Energa MKS Kalisz 28:17. This way, both teams slightly improved their ranking in the group. The Saturday game can go either way, as both teams have very similar statistics. Maybe the team playing at home will use it to their advantage and win?

It’s a tie

Both MMTS and Meble Wójcik have lost their last games. The Kwidzyn team lost heavily to Azoty-Puławy and Meble Wójcik were defeated by Wybrzeże Gdańsk. So far, the two teams fought twice against each other in the Superleague, with one victory for Elbląg and one for Kwidzyn. However, this season is much better for MMTS who have already won seven games. The two teams from the Blue Group will fight for four points.

Showing character

Głogów probably wants to forget about their last game as quickly as possible, having lost heavily to PGE VIVE Kielce (46:23). Fortunately, they will have a chance to redeem themselves this Saturday in a match against Energa MKS Kalisz. The opponent cannot be too happy about their last game either. Sandra Spa Pogoń Szczecin defeated them 28:17. With both teams so determined, it will no doubt be an interesting face-off.

Important points

Two points and three ranks: that’s the difference between Piotrkowianin and Wybrzeże. The Orange Group table has become quite packed. With four points at stake, the game will be very important for both teams. A victory would allow Piotrkowianin to come closer to Gwardia Opole in the table. In case of a victory for Wybrzeże, the Gdańsk team could advance by several ranks in the table. Piotrkowianin has proved on several occasions that they can play great handball at home. On the other hand, they have never played with Wybrzeże before.
The game will surely be an interesting face-off for four points.

Miners’ Day 2017! #MinersDerby

The Miners’ Day game will certainly be a great show. Two teams closely connected with the mining community – NMC Górnik Zabrze and Zagłębie Lubin – will face each other this Sunday, under the auspices of Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo. The miners’ orchestra, Makoszywy, will play during the game. In addition, the fans will all get a shako, a festive miner’s cap. The arena will be decorated in a mining theme. The fans will have a chance to see an exhibition from the Mining Museum in Zabrze. All of the current and former employees of the oil and gas industry who will come to the game dressed in the miner’s habit will pay a symbolic one złoty for the ticket to the game.

NMC Górnik Zabrze, already hailed the star of the first part of the season, will do their best to provide many handball thrills. They have already scored 34 points. This season, they have lost only once, to PGE VIVE Kielce. With the charismatic Rastislav Trtik coaching the team, NMC beats their rivals in both the attack and the defence. The Zabrze wingman Bartłomiej Tomczak is the current Superleague top scorer, with 73 goals in total.

This time, Zabrze will be visited by Zagłębie Lubin, a true match for Górnik in the attack. Their average number of goals per game is 29.1. For Zabrze, it is 30.2. Zagłębie is led by the former representative of the Polish national team, Bartłomiej Jaszka. Arkadiusz Moryto and Jan Czuwara, the wingmen, are considered the team’s main asset.
The rivalry is further fuelled by the fact that both teams play in the Blue Group and this Sunday will play for four points.
