Round 4 – preview

Round 4 begins, with another 30 points up for grabs. This week, you can watch the match between Wybrzeże Gdańsk and Azoty Puławy live on TV.

Morale boost needed
The team coached by Krzysztof Lipka and Tomasz Sondej failed to snatch any points from MKS Kalisz. This Tuesday, they face a still tougher challenge. The Polish Champions come to Mielec, aggravated by their recent defeat in the Champions League. Before the season, Vive signed some of the world’s top players — Alex Duyshebaev, Blaž Janc, and Marko Mamić, showing that they are dead serious about winning the Champions League again.
The Mielec team have other goals, though the atmosphere is also tense. Their defeat against MKS Kalisz was all the more painful, as 4 points were at stake. Still, Stal say they are not giving up, and will put up a fight against Vive.

Wybrzeże vs Azoty live on TV
The last face-off between Wybrzeże and Azoty took place in the 2017 quarter-finals. The Puławy team came out on top then, and are still considered the favorite now. They have a solid line-up, they have won all their matches, and they lead the Orange group. All is not lost for Gdańsk, though. The young, ambitious players already beat Azoty once last season. In their last game against Gwardia Opole, they showed their fighting spirit, only giving in to the rival in the penalties. Watch the Wybrzeże–Azoty game on Canal+ Sport.

Pogoń waiting for a breakthrough
The season has only just started, but the league table already shows which teams are in better shape. NMC Górnik Zabrze took the lead after their victory over Chrobry Głogów. They consistently show good technique and team play.  Pogoń, with no points won this season, are next to last. Last season, the Szczecin team also needed a long warm-up — the Saturday game may bring their long-awaited breakthrough.

Will Legionowo conquer Elbląg?
Meble Wójcik Elbląg and KPR Legionowo have both won one game each. Meble secured their 3 points in the first round match against Pogoń, while KPR was victorious last round, after a nail-biter match and penalty shootout against Piotrkowianin. This time, the home advantage and the line-up situation may tip the scales in favor of Elbląg.

Piotrkowianin fueled by rage
In the last two rounds, Piotrkowianin’s luck could not be worse. The team lost both matches in the penalty shootout. This round, they will go up against MKS Kalisz, who just chalked up their first Superleague victory against Stal Mielec. Fans are in for a thriller of a game, as Piotrkowianin’s rage clashes with the high morale of MKS.

Głogów are frustrated
After their defeat in the previous round, Chrobry Głogów, coached by Jarosław Cieślikowski, will now try to win some points in the game against the newly promoted Spójnia Gdynia — who have yet to earn their first points this season. Admittedly, though, so far Gdynia only played against much stronger teams.

Can Gwardia win for the first time?
This season, Gwardia and Wisła have been undefeated. With 10 points each, the teams rank 2nd and 3rd in the Orange group. Last round, Gwardia scored a last-minute equalizer, and then beat Wybrzeże Gdańsk in the penalty shootout. Orlen Wisła are always winning comfortably, with an overall +31 goal difference. They also gave a decent performance in the Champions League, despite their defeat against Vardar Skopje. Also, Orlen have never lost to Gwardia so far, which means they are the favorite.

A whole different game
If you look at the two teams’ face-to-face record, MMTS Kwidzyn is the heavy favorite (13 wins and only 2 losses). But looking at their current shape, the situation becomes less clear. With Bartłomiej Jaszka as the coach, Zagłębie have come a long way since last season. As to MMTS, they are much less impressive than before, and only won their first game last round. Let us not be fooled, though — they are still a tough team.
