Round 5 – preview

Round 5 of the PGNiG Superleague begins. This week, tune in to see the hit game between Azoty Puławy and Orlen Wisła Płock, and a very interesting match between NMC Górnik Zabrze and Gwardia Opole, both on Canal+ Sport.

Hit game in round 5

In a true blockbuster of round 5, Orlen Wisła Płock are coming to Puławy. This season, Azoty have shown great mental strength. In their last game, Krzysztof Łyżwa gave his team a win by scoring the decisive goal just 2 seconds before full time; and they won the previous one in the penalty shootout.

Wisła have also been undefeated so far, showing a lot of confidence this season, with an average of 31.8 goals scored per game. This is particularly impressive compared to their 21 goals conceded on average. See the clash between the silver and bronze medalists of the Polish Championship at 6:15 PM on Canal+ Sport.

Can Piotrkowianin resist the champions?

So far, PGE VIVE Kielce have dominated the PGNiG Superleague courts, playing with confidence and defeating their rivals quite effortlessly. They also impressed in their last EHF Champions League game, beating THW Kiel 32-21. In round 5, they will face Piotrkowianin Piotrków Trybunalski, who are in much better shape now than last season. They won six points in their last three games, held out until the penalty shootout in two matches, and claimed a comfortable victory against MKS Kalisz last round.

A hard time for Górnik

NMC Górnik Zabrze currently tops the overall table. With Rastislav Trtik as the new coach, the team performs really well this season, and features the current top scorer, Bartłomiej Tomczak, in the wing, and last season’s best player, Marek Daćko, in the pivot position. Nonetheless, Gwardia are going to be tough opponents, as they already beat Górnik twice last season. Their strongest assets include goalie Adam Malcher, experienced backcourts, and the charismatic captain Mateusz Jankowski.

Breaking the curse

Spójnia Gdynia have yet to earn their first points in the Superleague, just as Sandra Spa Pogoń Szczecin, against whom they are playing this Saturday. This means both teams have to give their 100%. The two teams have never yet played an official game against one another, so it is very hard to tell which one is the favorite.

Valuable points to snatch

Aggravated after giving in to Azoty Puławy in the previous round, Wybrzeże Gdańsk are now coming to Legionowo. The local team could also use a morale boost after last round’s heavy defeat against Meble Wójcik Elbląg. If they want to stay ahead of the competition, this is their chance to chalk up some league points.

How to break Elbląg’s defence

Last round, the newly promoted team lost heavily to Piotrkowianin, and now will try to make up for it in the match against Meble Wójcik Elbląg. MKS Kalisz surely enjoy the support of their fans, whose loud cheering may give them the boost they need in critical moments of the game. Beating Meble is not going to be easy, though. They have played in the Superleague before and are in quite good shape this season, especially in the defence — they rank third in the league in terms of average goals conceded, and have the great Paweł Kiepulski in the goal.

Zagłębie playing without Jaszka

This season, Zagłębie were victorious twice, but during their last match, the player-coach Bartłomiej Jaszka suffered a shoulder injury, and his absence might take a toll on the Lubin team’s game. Stal only won once so far, but last season the team went all the way to the play-offs, and are sure to try to win it all in this week’s game.
